MAKERBOT - Completed
in
April
2010,
Matt's
Makerbot
from Makerbot Industries
is a do-it-yourself, three-dimensional printer kit. Since completing
its assembly, Matt has added some modifications to this desktop factory.

Matt's
first
upgrade
was
the
addition
of a heated build-platform, where the
part is printed. Due to the nature of the plastic used, (ABS) the
prints have a tendency to warp as they are printed. A heated build
platform significantly reduces warping in the print. His first
heated build platform suffered an epoxy failure.

The
wedge
shape
(above)
is
due
to the epoxy around the screws holding the
top ceramic plate to the wood base. Following this failure Matt
purchased a different heated platform kit. This went together with much
more success.

The above detailed image shows Matt's solution to losing the small surface mount components. Additional upgrades include the new MK5 extruder and a filament spool so the Makerbot can auto-feed.
